Situated in the heartland of India, Madhya Pradesh, Pench is one of the most famous National Parks in India, owing to its legacy. It was made immortal by Kipling in the Jungle Book and remains one of the best places in India for tiger sightings and research.

Home to the world’s largest population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses, the Kaziranga National Park in Assam is a dream come true for any wildlife enthusiast. Apart from the majestic rhinos, it’s also populated with animals like the wild boar, the wild water buffalo and Barasingha deer.

Nestled in the lush slopes of the Western Ghats, Agumbe is home to a staggering biodiversity, thanks to the amount of rainfall it receives. Also called the Cherrapunji of the South, Agumbe is heaven for you if you like photography, wildlife and rain. A good lens cover here, is a must to save your camera from condensation and the constant rain induced moisture.
Although Agumbe is famous for the legendary King Cobra, if you’re lucky, you can also spot a flying lizard here. After taking the perfect shot, capture the silver mist enveloping the valley and visit one of the many gorgeous waterfalls of Agumbe.
Kabini, Karnataka
If you want a healthy mix of nature and beauty, Kabini should be the first destination on your list. Situated around the eponymous tributary of Cauvery, the Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary is a stone’s throw away from Nagarhole National Park.
While you can spot herds of elephants and Indian gaurs at the Kabini dam, you can also get a chance to spot many migratory birds and otters in the morning. Get a chance to spot tigers or hear their mating call. The lush green around the Kabini river offers excellent photography opportunities too. A low angle picture with the focus at a distant subject and out of field depth of grass, can sometimes result in pictures worth awards.
The oldest and the largest tiger reserve in Maharashtra, Tadoba is a delight for anyone who is fascinated by the gorgeous large cats. Tadoba offers you a chance to spot not only the tigers but also the usually shy sloth bears. So make sure you’re ready with your camera as the chance to capture something truly extraordinary could come without warning! Also make sure you're carrying camera camouflage gear, so that you don't get spotted by wildlife.
Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its elephants and is the perfect place to visit if you’re looking to unwind and hone your wildlife photography skills simultaneously.
This is just the place you’re looking for if you want to spot langurs, deers, spotted deer, Malabar giant squirrels and elephants. To get the best views, book the morning safari. Do make sure that your camera has vibration reduction lenses or optical image stabilization as the safaris are mostly on uneven trails.
Nokrek National Park, Meghalaya
Situated in the East Garo hills of Meghalaya, Nokrek National Park is one of the latest additions to UNESCO’s list of biosphere reserves in India. In addition to the usual big cats and Asian elephants, Nokrek is home to one of the cutest and most sought-after animal species in the region- the red panda.
Some other animal species you can photograph here are capped langur, clouded leopard, leopard cat, fishing-cat, golden cat, pangolin and wild buffalo. A good way to make the subject stand out is to use high aperture depth fields.
